Getting Started with DripWealth: A Complete Beginner's Guide
Welcome to DripWealth
Congratulations on taking the first step toward tracking your dividend income! Whether you are a seasoned investor with a full portfolio or just bought your first dividend stock, DripWealth helps you see exactly how your money is working for you.
This guide walks you through everything you need to do after signing up โ from adding your first stock holding to setting income goals and understanding your dashboard. By the end, you will have a fully set up account and a clear picture of your dividend income.
The whole process takes less than 10 minutes. Let's get started.
Step 1: Add Your First Holding
Your portfolio is the foundation of everything in DripWealth. Once you tell us what stocks you own, we can predict your future dividends, calculate your yield, and score the quality of your holdings.
How to add a holding:
- Navigate to the Portfolio page from the top navigation (under Tracking โ Portfolio)
- Click the "Add Holding" button
- Search for a stock ticker (e.g., type "KO" for Coca-Cola or "SCHD" for the Schwab Dividend ETF)
- Enter the number of shares you own (decimals are supported for fractional shares)
- Click "Add"
๐ก Tip: Add all of your dividend-paying stocks right away. The more complete your portfolio, the more accurate your income predictions and dividend score will be. You can always edit the share count later if it changes.
Once added, DripWealth automatically fetches the current stock price, dividend history, and calculates your projected income. You will see your holding appear in the portfolio table with its yield, annual income, and dividend score.
Step 2: Record Your First Dividend
Every dividend payment you log becomes part of your permanent income history. This is how DripWealth tracks your actual progress over time โ your YTD total, monthly charts, badge points, and Year in Review all come from your recorded dividends.
How to record a dividend:
- Go to the Dividends page (under Tracking โ Dividends)
- Click "Add Dividend"
- Select or type the stock ticker (e.g., "AAPL")
- Enter the payment date โ the date you received the dividend
- Enter the dividend per share and number of shares โ the total is calculated automatically
- Click "Save"
๐ก Tip: You can find dividend-per-share amounts on your brokerage statement or on sites like Seeking Alpha and Nasdaq.com. If you have many past dividends, use the CSV Import feature on the Upload page to add them in bulk.
After saving, the dividend appears in your history and immediately counts toward your YTD total, badge points, and analytics charts. If the ticker is not yet in your portfolio, DripWealth will prompt you to add it as a holding โ say yes!
Step 3: Set Your Income Goals
Goals turn passive tracking into active progress. When you set a quarterly or annual dividend income target, DripWealth shows you a progress bar on your dashboard and analytics page so you always know where you stand.
How to set a goal:
- Go to the Goals page (under Insights โ Goals)
- Enter an annual target โ how much total dividend income you want to earn this year
- Optionally set quarterly targets (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) for more granular tracking
- Click "Save"
๐ก Tip: Not sure what to aim for? Start with a goal slightly above what you earned last year. Even a modest 10% increase gives you something to work toward. You can always adjust your goals as the year progresses.
Once set, your quarterly progress appears on the dashboard and your analytics page shows how actual income compares to each quarter's target.
Step 4: Explore Your Dashboard
With holdings, dividends, and goals in place, your dashboard comes alive. Here is what each section tells you:
- YTD Dividends โ Total dividend income received so far this year
- Est. Monthly โ Your projected monthly dividend income based on current holdings (this updates daily via portfolio snapshots)
- Portfolio Yield โ The weighted average dividend yield across all your holdings
- Quarterly Progress โ How close you are to each quarter's income goal
- Upcoming Dividends โ Predicted payments for your holdings over the next few months, so you know exactly when to expect income
- Top Holdings โ Your biggest dividend contributors at a glance
The dashboard is your daily command center. Bookmark it and check back whenever dividends hit your account to log them and watch your progress grow.
Step 5: Understand Your Dividend Score
Every holding in your portfolio receives a Dividend Score from 0 to 100 โ a composite quality rating that helps you understand the strength and reliability of each stock's dividend. You will find scores on the Portfolio page next to each holding.
The score combines six factors, each measuring a different aspect of dividend quality:
- Growth (25%) โ How fast the company has been raising its dividend (1-year, 3-year, 5-year CAGR)
- Financial Health (25%) โ Balance sheet strength: debt levels, profitability, and income quality
- Payout Safety (20%) โ Whether the company can comfortably afford its dividend from earnings and free cash flow
- Consistency (15%) โ How regular and predictable the payments have been
- Streak (10%) โ How many consecutive payments without a cut
- Yield (5%) โ A sweet-spot score (too high may signal risk, too low may signal limited income)
๐ก Tip: Click on any score badge to see the full 6-pillar breakdown in a popover. This helps you understand exactly why a holding scored high or low and what factors are pulling the score up or down.
Your Portfolio Dividend Score (shown at the top of the metrics tab) is a market-value-weighted average across all holdings โ it tells you the overall quality of your dividend portfolio at a glance. A score above 70 is excellent.
